We also will be cooking up a vegan feast in the evenings to satisfy the hungriest travellers, and will be offering delicious vegan breakfast options to set your days up! Volunteering in the National Park of Pieniny, Slovakia

The national park of Pieniny is located in the northern part of Slovakia, close to the Polish border. The Park itself is fairly small with a length of 14.5 km and 4.8 km at its widest point. Despite its small size the park is an absolute treasure trove of endemic species of flora and fauna, largely due to its elevation and microclimates found within its steep valleys. The area has been attracting botanists for over 200 years. The character of the fauna has been determined by its geographical location; you can find pine and spruce forests, mountain meadows, pastures, wetlands, rivers, lakes and exposed rocky cliffs and slopes.

PRICE PER PERSON: £745

In 1967, the National Park of Pieniny was established as the second national park of Czechoslovakia, and since then many projects has been carried out to maintain and conserve the nature in this part of Slovakia. The area is also preserved under the project NATURA 2000 whose main aim is to protect the rare and endangered fauna and flora and their biotopes in the countries of Europe.

We have the honour to make you a part of the conservation effort in this beautiful Park under the management of the National Park headquarters.

You will experience two days of volunteering activities in this beautiful area. In summer months we will join forces to manage the wetland areas. Little jobs such as cutting and raking the overgrown grass and disposal of the bio waste will need to be completed so small mammals can continue to live in their favoured areas.

In spring and autumn months we will need to prepare the breading areas for one of the rare and by law protected butterfly called Mountain Apollo. Jobs such as cutting and clearing of overgrown bushes and shrubbery will be required.

All your efforts will ensure the future preservation of this unique and beautiful part of the world for generations to come, and allow you a wonderful opportunity to explore this wild part of Europe whilst on your holiday. On behalf of Cabin Under The Mountains, and the National Park of Pieniny management; thank you.

Mountain Trips

Mountain tours will be undertaken with an experienced, English speaking mountain guide. Proposed walks are subject to change according to accessibility and weather conditions. .

Sustainability

Sustainable tourism is a key element to us. We are a family run business with the capacity of 16 beds, there is a possibility of an extra bed in the room for children. Where need of outsourcing (mountain guides, transport, housekeeping) locals will be considered and employed. We have picked a range of mountain guides we are happy to work with based on the lengths of their experience in the area and the ability to speak English language.
